Donate now to meet tax deadline

Imagine four new dedicated courts that can be open to the outdoors during the summer.

The fundraising campaign for indoor pickleball courts at Buchanan hasn’t even properly kicked off yet, but $35,000 already has been donated, perhaps with a 2024 tax deduction in mind. If you’re inclined to add to the total before the year ends, now is clearly the time. The link is live and it’s easy. Checks may be sent to Evergreen Pickleball Club, PO Box 231, Evergreen CO 80439.

Anyone who has tried to shoehorn into the crowd at Wulf lately knows we just can’t go on this way. We need more indoor courts, and we need them by next winter. To assist and encourage EPRD to make that happen, we hope to raise $450,000 through private and corporate donations as well as grants.

Donations will be put into an EPC bank account that will be transferred to EPRD only for construction of the field house—and only once EPC has approved the design and EPRD has broken ground. In the unlikely event that EPRD chooses not to build a new field house, money will be refunded.

We are ecstatic that EPRD has decided to build a field house that will house dedicated indoor pickleball courts along with a multi-use space similar to the Wulf gym. Now we want to ensure that we get four dedicated pickleball courts (not two) with appropriate flooring and amenities, and that it happens next year.

Julie Ann Courim, with an assist from husband Chris, has stepped up bigtime to help. “EPC's fundraising effort is just getting started,” Julie Ann said. “We have converted EPC into a fully-fledged 501(c)(3) organization, which means your donation toward this effort may be tax-deductible. We are developing a brand-new fundraising website that will describe the entire project and provide multiple payment options for online donations.” The website will go live in early January.

Planned features of the field house:

· Four permanent pickleball courts, plus additional lined courts in a multi-use gymnasium space.

· Interior design potentially featuring a roll-up wall system for fresh air and ventilation during warmer months.

· Possible amenities include a check-in desk integrated with EPRD, restrooms, showers and locker space for personal belongings.

· Expanded space to accommodate EPRD and EPC tournaments, as well as fundraising events.

The planned field house addition is in yellow, northeast of the present Buchanan Rec Center in white.

Speaking of appropriate surfaces . . .

We will have input into the court surface at the new field house. We hope some of you will take advantage of the opportunity to try out the court surface at Meadow Creek Pickleball and report back. You can email Bob Kerr or hit him up on the courts.
